yaw patel is here now with another freeze warning for us. sandhya? >> that's right, carolyn. the freeze warning is limited to a specific area, and i will talk about that in a moment. the current readings are higher than where they were last night at this time. it is above freezing. livermore is above freezing. the clouds are moving in, and they are holding the temperatures up and providing a blanket affect. the freeze warning is going until 9:00 a.m. on wednesday. it cuferz the salina -- it covers the salinas valley. you could see some freeze damage to sensitive plants. watch out for patches of ice especially on the bridges and overpasses. as you look at the overnight readings they are coming into the upper 20s for fairfield and livermore and down below freezing in napa. right down to freezing and 32 in santa rosa, san jose and santa cruz. but here is what is coming. it is a major change of the rain is already moving into crescent city. the dry spell that has been going on for a long period of time here in the bay area is about to transition to a stretch of rainy days. more

. sandhya patel is here now. >> it is unusual. the calendar says winter but it felts like the spring. we have records 72 in santa rosa. record high of 69 in oakland moffett field, livermore. these were all records santa rosa and livermore were ties. half moon bay santa cruz hitting 70 degrees today, hard to believe. 67 in napa clear lake. 66 in ukiah and concord. down toward san jose 64 today. it was a beautiful day here in the bay area. we had records. there were records in other parts of the state as well. down to southern california we go and san gabriel 91 degrees. 91. that's not a typo. 85 in los angeles and 88 degrees in long beach. it is an area of high pressure with a down sloping wind. it is an offshore flow that provided us with the warmth in the bay area today. and you probably noticed the high clouds this afternoon. we expected them. the high clouds are made up of ice crystals and they provided these beautiful sunsets. this is is a pretty winter sunset from brentwood sent by stephanie h to my

patel is here -- sandhya patel is here with a look at that for us. >> it will be a huge change when it gets here, and it will be the middle to latter part of next week. we are looking at the possibility of rain here and snow in the sierra nevada. it is a major shift from what we have been dealing with. we had record highs today. richmond 69 and 73 in hollister. it tied the previous record. it is january 13th and 81 degrees in salinas. unbelievable. 68 in san jose. it is 65 for you in san francisco. near 70 degrees in santa rosa. the numbers right now are falling. it is going to be cold again. you can see clearly why. clear skies and 37 for fairfield and 38 in santa rosa. we have low 40s in concord and livermore and moffett field as well and mountain view. here are the highlights. chilly tonight and mild tomorrow. sharply cooler for sunday. a potentially wet pattern is setting up for the middle to latter part of next week. it is a major change as i mentioned, and it is going to take us some time to get used to. it since the last time we saw rain was december 30th as far as measurable

't seem like there is any change on the way. sandhya patel is here now. >> no, no big changes are on the way. we are not expecting snow in the sierra and no rain in the bay area at least for the next 10 days. i looked at the extended models. the computer models are not indicating any wet weather coming anytime soon. the snowpack one year ago was 212% of normal. as the survey was done today 19% of normal to the north and 21% of normal. we just mentioned central sierra 13% and the southern sierra, 26% of normal. the department of water resources management are saying we do have good reservoir storage. right now we are still hoping obviously for some snow in the next couple months, and hopefully that will help the situation. from the heavenly camera, 8300 foot elevation, and this is just from an hour or so ago. there is no snow there. not a lot going on. just man made snow. but they had record heat in tahoe again today. the temperature in the lake tahoe area, 58 degrees. it is hard to get snow when you have record warmth. temperatures in the 40s and the 50s right now, and the fog

are everywhere once again. >> boy, we are stuck in this pattern, aren't we? >> sandhya patel is here with the forecast. >> carolyn and dan, it has been a long dry streak. the last time it rained in san francisco, december 30th, 2011. you probably can't even remember the last time you pulled out your umbrella. the average january rainfall is 4.5 inches in san francisco. we have received 0. that could all be changing. let me show uh time lapse from our high definition roof camera. the moon is 96% of full. the skies are clear tonight and giving us a spectacular view of the moon. and because of the clear skies, we are on the way to a very cold night. it is already down to freezing in novato. it is just about freezing in napa. 36 in fairfield. low 40s for mountain view, livermore and also for half moon bay. here are the highlights. mostly clear and cold tonight. a spare the air for tomorrow. looking at dry and mild weather into the weekend, but things are going to change beyond that. we will talk about that in a moment here. spare the air for your wednesday. poor air quality in the north
